According to reports, pop sensation Katy Perry is eager to return as a judge on the reality show American Idol following the underwhelming reception of her most recent album, 143, which was released in September.
Fans referred to the album as “outdated” and “desperate,” and it failed to create an impression on the music charts.
American Idol was a “safe, steady gig for Katy,” according to an insider who spoke to Life & Style.
The insider also disclosed Perry’s battle to regain her place on the program.
“Now that her album has flopped, she’s scrambling to reclaim her spot at the judges’ table,” they stated. “It’s a clear sign even she knows her days as a chart-topping artist are behind her.”
But because Carrie Underwood is now taking Perry’s place, it doesn’t seem likely that Perry will return until the upcoming season is a ratings bust.
Perry suffered a severe setback when her most recent single, “Woman’s World,” off album 143, stuck at No. 63 on the Billboard Hot 100.
This is particularly disheartening because Perry has sold more diamond singles than anyone else, with the exception of Rihanna, with each single selling over 10 million units.
According to another insider, Perry was operating in the shadow of her rivals and had lost her uniqueness.
The anonymous source added, “Her entire category of radio pop exists in the shadow of Taylor Swift at the moment and Katy was foolish to think she could be the exception to that rule.”
They implied that the songwriting, not the music videos or Perry’s attire, was what made her best work so popular.
Additionally, according to the source, Perry lacks Swift’s and Billie Eilish’s devoted songwriting partners, Jack Antonoff and Finneas, respectively.
Perry declared earlier this year that the 22nd season of the well-known singing competition will be her last.
When ABC revived American Idol following its initial run on Fox, Perry made his debut on the show in March 2018, during its 16th season.
She has been a regular member of the judges panel ever since, joining Luke Bryan and Lionel Richie. “I mean, I love Idol so much,” Perry said, looking back on her time on the show.
