At this early point in the Championship season, Leeds United has a few players in outstanding form; after ten games last season, Leeds had already surpassed their form.
Daniel Farke’s team is three spots higher in the league standings and three points better than they were the previous season. As they get ready to play a sixth team out of the seven in the top eight, the Whites are now in third place.
Despite starting just three of the ten Championship games thus far, Joel Piroe has four goals. Junior Firpo, Jayden Bogle, Illan Meslier, Joe Rodon, and Pascal Struijk have all contributed to six clean sheets.
In midfield, Ao Tanaka and Joe Rothwell are dominating, and Largie Ramazani has scored two goals since joining the team. Mateo Joseph has started eight of his ten Championship games and has five goals and five assists.
Despite being on fire, Wilfried Gnonto is unhappy with Leeds’ performance.
Prior to the victory over Sheffield United, the Italy star contributed to four goals in four games, earning him Leeds’ September Player of the Month accolade. In his ten games this season, he has six goals and six assists.
Indeed, after agreeing to a new contract with Leeds in the summer, Gnonto has also excelled for Italy’s U21 team. Gnonto received a knock to the shoulder on Friday night, but manager Farke stated it was just bruising and that he was unharmed.
Despite the stats, Gnonto expressed his dissatisfaction with his form in an interview with Leeds United’s website following the award ceremony: Since I know I can still get better, I wouldn’t say I’m satisfied.
Although it’s been a positive beginning, I’m still a long way from where I want to be. I know that my work is not done, so I train daily for this. I have a lot of objectives for the season, and I aim to accomplish them all.
Gnonto is already getting closer to his peak performance in a Leeds shirt.
The fact that Gnonto is still only 21 is astounding. Gnonto is one of the players who has been at Elland Road the longest, having joined from Zurich as a youngster and assumed the role of primary man in attack.
It took Gnonto 17 more games than he has this season to reach eight goals and eight assists in his Premier League debut. He played four times as much as he has already played and finished with a total of 12 last season.
In just 25% of the games this season, he has contributed to half as many goals as he did in the previous year. Ideally, on Tuesday evening, for Leeds supporters and for Gnonto, he can increase his numbers again.
