In addition to ending in a 30–15 loss, the Texas Longhorns and Georgia Bulldogs’ first meeting since 2019 was not without controversy. Joel Klatt added his perspective to the discussion.

When Texas corner back Jahdae Barron intercepted Carson Beck late in the third quarter, with Georgia leading 23–8, the ball was returned to the Bulldogs’ nine-yard line. Nevertheless, the initial call by the officiating crew disregarded the interception, citing defensive pass interference on Barron.

It was evident to Texas supporters watching the replay at DKR-Texas Memorial Stadium that it was the Georgia receiver, not Barron, who had interfered. The game was stopped when spectators started to boo and start hurling objects on the field in retaliation.

After Texas head coach Steve Sarkisian pleaded with the crowd to stop, the official panel deliberated for a while before declaring that there was no defensive pass interference.

Following all that mayhem, the Texas offense found success with a 17-yard touchdown run by Jaydon Blue, bringing the score to 23–15. It did not, however, last long, as Georgia scored on its subsequent possession to make the score 30–15.

In a recent episode of “The Joel Klatt Show,” Joel Klatt expressed his disapproval of the officiating crew’s choice to raise the flag. He likened the choice to giving in to a child’s tantrums in the grocery store.

Klatt remarked, “They changed the call.” “This is unlike anything I’ve ever seen. The kid who had a tantrum in the confectionery section of your neighborhood supermarket to get his mother to purchase him a Snickers bar was rewarded. Are you not thinking, “Oh my gosh, I can’t believe that parent just allowed that kid to throw a fit and get his way,” when you witness that at the grocery store? What do you think? My child has been lying down. Take a guess at what he missed. A chuckle. Do you know why? I’ve reached adulthood.

Following Texas’ defeat by Georgia, there are no longer any unbeaten teams in the SEC. In the Week 9 AP Poll, Georgia jumped from fifth to second place, while the Longhorns dropped to No. 5.

In Week 9, Texas takes on the No. 25 Vanderbilt Commodores at 4:15 p.m. ET on SEC Network. The Bulldogs are off.
