Leeds United will have to make a decision on Patrick Bamford’s future in the January transfer window, with former Whites midfielder Carlton Palmer feeling it could be a case of ‘time’s up’.

The experienced striker’s contract is up in 2026, but he appears to have slipped down the pecking order at Elland Road, despite the exits of Georginio Rutter and Crysencio Summerville. He has played just 42 minutes of Championship football so far this season.

Mateo Joseph has jumped ahead of him in Daniel Farke’s plans, with the young forward coming off the bench to score the second goal in the 2-0 win over Sheffield United on Friday night. Palmer feels a parting of the ways could be on the cards, with Leeds potentially looking to strengthen their striking options in January.

“It’s rumoured that Patrick Bamford has said he wants to leave Leeds in the summer,” Palmer told Football League World. “I’m a big admirer of Bamford, he’s just picked up a lot of injuries.

“In the 2019-20 season, he ended up with 16 goals in the Championship, and he then went into the Premier League in the 2020-21 season and scored 17 goals. His game time has been very, very limited this season, and he’s on huge money, so I can’t see Leeds offering him a new contract, I just don’t see how that works.
