As Newcastle United contemplates a January approach for the defender, Peter Crouch thinks Marc Guehi will depart Crystal Palace.

In the summer, Newcastle made an unsuccessful attempt to sign the 24-year-old after his triumph with England at Euro 2024. To the secret annoyance of Magpies’ sporting director Paul Mitchell, the month-long transfer drama was publicly unfolded, with Palace chairman Steve Parish frequently speaking to the media.

United chose to back out of a deal after the Eagles demanded more than £70 million, but they are ready to put their determination to the test once more in January when Guehi begins the last 18 months of his contract. It is currently believed that Guehi is unlikely to stay past June 2026.

Crouch, a former Tottenham Hotspur and England striker, thinks Guehi will soon depart Selhurst Park due to rumored interest from Manchester City and Liverpool.

“That was a huge, huge call for this football club [Palace] to hold onto him,” Crouch remarked prior to Palace’s 1-0 loss to Liverpool on Saturday. Newcastle was their top goal, and I believe they came in with £70 million.

Yes, it continued throughout the summer. I believe that Guehi will leave, that they will have a difficult time holding onto him, and that other teams, including Liverpool, will try to sign him. He’s done well, in my opinion, to sort of move on.

After the Euros, there was a lot of attention in him, but he’s focused on his goals. He must fulfill his duties to Palace, thus he is moving forward.

Not everyone agrees with Crouch, who commended Guehi for his response to the summer interest in him.

Palace is still looking for their first win in the new Premier League season after seven games. Guehi has also been singled out for some of his mistakes and has not been exempt from criticism.

Guehi posted on social media following Palace’s 2-2 draw with Leicester City at home last month, saying, “I didn’t do well yesterday. However, I’m proud of the team’s resilience and point-winning performance.
