Plymouth Argyle Transfer News Recap: Al Hajj signs, Earley and Waine leave

Swedish midfielder Rami Al Hajj has joined the Pilgrims from Danish club Odense on a three-year contract

The summer transfer window is over, and it ended with Plymouth Argyle making nine new signings during the course of it.

The last Pilgrims’ arrival was announced at 9pm tonight (Friday) as Swedish midfielder Rami Al Hajj joined on a three-year contract from Danish club Odense. The fee was undisclosed but reports have suggested it is one million euros – or around £840,000.

His deal was not finalised in time, though, for him to be eligible for the Championship clash against Steven Schumacher’s Stoke City at Home Park on Saturday afternoon. Al Hajj will wear the number 28 shirt.

Eight players had already been brought in by Argyle before transfer deadline day, with four of them arriving on permanent deals – Dan Grimshaw, Nathanael Ogbeta, Victor Palsson and Kornel Szucs. The quartet of Ibrahaim Cissoko, Darko Gyabi, Michael Obafemi and Muhamed Tijani also arrived on loan.

The big departure from Home Park this summer was goalkeeper Michael Cooper, who signed for Championship rivals Sheffield United for an initial £2 million fee, which could rise up to £4m based on various add-ons, such as the Blades clinching promotion back to the Premier League.

Transfer deadline day saw left-back Saxon Earley and striker Ben Waine leave Argyle for loan moves to League One clubs Lincoln City and Mansfield Town respectively.

Transfer window closed

It has passed 11pm and the summer transfer window is officially closed. Argyle have ended up with nine signings, five permanent – Nathanael Ogbeta, Victor Palsson, Kornel Szucs, Dan Grimshaw and Rami Al Hajj – and four on loan – Darko Gyabi, Michael Obafemi, Muhamed Tijani and Ibrahim Cissoko.

The big departure was goalkeeper Michael Cooper to Sheffield United but Morgan Whittaker stayed despite a permanent bid from Burnley yesterday.
