Joe Rothwell, a midfielder for the Whites, gave a candid assessment of Friday night’s 2-2 draw against Sunderland and laid out his team’s future strategy.

Rothwell, 29, made an impression on Friday night when he made his league debut against Sunderland. Rothwell joined Leeds on a season-long loan from Bournemouth in the summer.

Leeds was leading the Championship leaders by 2-1 deep into stoppage time in the second half, but a seemingly innocuous ball into the box from Sunderland managed to elude goalkeeper Illan Meslier and give the Black Cats a 2-2 draw.

Playing the entire game, Rothwell acknowledges that the result was a “bitter” blow, but he also announced that the team will now focus on recharging before visiting Sheffield United following the international break.

“Bitter pill to swallow, time to rest and recoup and go again in a few weeks,” Rothwell posted on his Instagram page.
