Opponents of the Pittsburgh Steelers still don’t know how to stop T.J. Watt. Even though Watt is the most chipped player in the league after three games, he has a sack in every Steelers win. Watt continues to dominate games despite this.
The legendary NFL head coach Bill Belichick has observed a pattern among a number of the Steelers’ opponents: they don’t send many players to block Alex Highsmith and Aaron Watt.
Belichick stated, “These teams are just asking for trouble if they just let Highsmith and Watt run the edge and run the corner of them with no presence.”
Nick Herbig is a fast and explosive guy who fits right in with that bunch. Watt has been able to outmaneuver tackles and yet take their hit despite having the chips. This has made it possible for him to succeed in one-on-one situations with the other members of the interior defensive line.
Rather than going on blitzes, the Steelers have prevailed with four. They are only ranked 27th in the NFL for blitz rate, but fourth for pressure rate. That demonstrates the efficacy of the Steelers’ blitzes in the first three games, and it may be due in part to some of the indifferent views regarding Pittsburgh’s pass rusher
