With a depleted roster, the Philadelphia Eagles take on the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Sunday.

DeVonta Smith, a wide receiver for the Philadelphia Eagles, will not be playing this week due to a concussion he sustained during the team’s 15–12 victory over the New Orleans Saints last week.

After a late hit from defensive tackle Khristian Boyd, Smith sustained a concussion. The rookie received a mere $4,600 fine as a result of the league’s hit. ESPN’s Katherine Terrell clarified why the fine wasn’t higher, despite the opinions of those who felt it should have been. “A hit on a defenseless player for a first-time offender typically comes with a fine of $16,883,” Terrell stated. “A player’s fine for a first transgression, however, cannot be greater than 10% of their salary cap hit for that particular game week. Boyd has a $844,215 cap hit for the 2024 season, which translates to a weekly salary cap amount of roughly $46,900.”

However, there is positive news regarding the Eagles. A.J. Brown for Philadelphia went from out of the last two weeks to questionable on Sunday. Due to a concussion of his own, All-Pro right tackle Lane Johnson was also listed as questionable.

Philadelphia has enough depth to be competitive away from home, but heading into Week 4, Smith and Brown’s injuries are still a major concern.
