Sports Players from Philadelphia Eagles who left the game against the New Orleans Saints injured included DeVonta Smith and Lane Johnson.
The Philadelphia Eagles, who defeated the New Orleans Saints 15–12 on Sunday, began Week 3 without their star wideout, A.J. Brown, and departed Caesars Superdome with multiple other key players hurt.
Mekhi Becton, DeVonta Smith, and offensive lineman Lane Johnson were among the offensive starters lost by the Eagles. Becton sustained a finger injury, and Johnson and Smith both sustained concussions. Britain Covey, a wide receiver and punt returner, was ruled out due to a shoulder issue.
Tyler Steen played right guard and Fred Johnson filled in at right tackle because Johnson and Becton were sidelined. As stated by the Philadelphia managed to run the ball successfully despite missing two starters on the right side of the offensive line. On 17 carries, Saquon Barkley gained 147 yards of total yardage and two touchdowns. His first touchdown in the fourth quarter, a 65-yard sprint, accounted for a significant portion of his total yards gained on the ground. The Saints were giving up only 3.1 yards per carry to the opposition going into the contest.
Smith recorded seven receptions for 79 yards in the victory, and Eagles head coach Nick Sirianni called him a “warrior.”
“One of the toughest guys I know is DeVonta Smith,” Sirianni remarked. “Among the toughest guys I know is him. I’ll find out how he’s doing; he didn’t return to the game, of course, but he would have if he could have because DeVonta Smith is a tough guy. DeVonta Smith is a tough guy who puts his body in danger and is a warrior. He is one of the guys that plays in and out, puts his body on the line, and does it consistently. I’m hoping all is OK with him.”
In Smith and Brown’s absence, tight end Dallas Goedert took over as the go-to player.
and act out, and he’s one of those guys who always does that. I’m hoping all is OK with him.”
Tight end Dallas Goedert stepped up and produced 10 receptions for 170 yards, which were both career highs, in Smith and Brown’s absence from the offense.
With 1:01 remaining in the game, Barkley’s game-winning touchdown gave the Eagles the lead, which was partially set up by Goedert’s 61-yard reception late in the fourth quarter.
Lane Johnson, Smith, Brown, Becton, and Covey might not play against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on the road the next week.
With a hamstring injury that has kept him out of the last two games, Brown may be nearing a return against the Bucs. He informed ESPN prior to Week 2’s game against the Atlanta Falcons that he would be out for several weeks. Philadelphia would have a thin wide receiver group if Smith and Brown were unable to participate.
Fortunately, the Eagles will have a much-needed bye in Week 5 to allow certain players to recover after their matchup with Tampa Bay.
