The Red Dragons saw their star striker ruled out of a North America tour after being forced to undergo surgery to fix a “long-term lower-back/hamstring issue”. Mullin has watched on from afar as Phil Parkinson’s side have gone unbeaten through pre-season.
The 29-year-old, who has 105 Wrexham goals to his name, is set to sit out early fixtures in the 2024-25 campaign. He has, however, made positive progress in his recovery and is expected to rejoin training before the new season gets underway.
Parkinson has said of welcoming his talismanic No.10 back into the fold: “Paul is progressing well and he’ll be back out on the grass by Thursday next week [8 August], which is fantastic for us. He’s a naturally fit lad and I don’t think it will be long to get back and start knocking on the door saying he’s ready. I’ve talked to him and the operation has done its trick and feels so much better, and so it was the right decision to go ahead with it. Touch wood, if there’s no problems with it I envisage he’ll be back sooner rather than later.”
Wrexham are readying themselves for a League One opener against Wycombe at SToK Racecourse on August 10. They will then head out on the road for a Carabao Cup first round clash with Sheffield United and intriguing meeting with fellow third tier promotion hopefuls Bolton.
