Cedric Kipre exit would be huge blow at West Brom after transfer news
Dan Bardell believes that losing Cedric Kipre could be detrimental to West Brom in the summer transfer window and their prospects next season.
After a year away at Cardiff City, the Frenchman came back to The Hawthorns and stood out with his performances as he won the Player of the Year, and has been offered a new contract.
With the season now complete, the 27-year-old is set to explore his options at the end of his Baggies contract with Trabzonspor interested [Taka Gazete].
Sky Sports and talkSPORT journalist Bardell has suggested that this could hurt the club financially and on the pitch next season.
Speaking exclusively to West Brom News, Bardell said: “I don’t think West Brom are in a position where they can afford to lose any players that played that amount of first-team football last season.
“I don’t believe they’re going to be able to invest in their playing squad in terms of incomings. They’ve had to work smartly over the years and I think they will again even if they sell somebody.
“The problem with losing Kipre on a free is that they aren’t getting anything back. They lose a first-team player with no money coming in to replace him with. That would be a huge blow and a massive problem.”
Cedric Kipre set for West Brom departure
It came as a great surprise to see Kipre return from his loan and take his place in the Baggies squad under Carlos Corberan and flourish.
He played a great role at the heart of the defence to help boost West Brom to a Play-Off spot in the Championship.
The season ended in frustrating circumstances after a loss to Southampton in the semi-final second leg before they won in the final at Wembley.
With the new season on the horizon, the Baggies need to do their best to keep the base of their team together to have the best chance of a positive campaign.
Kipre may fancy his chances abroad with the chance of potentially playing Champions or Europa League football next season, particularly with a move to Turkiye.
West Brom needs to do as much as they can to secure at least another year for the defender ahead of another positive campaign in the Championship.
