Nebraska linebacker Nick Henrich retires from football
One of Nebraska’s most impactful defensive players will not be returning to the team in 2024.
Linebacker Nick Henrich announced on Wednesday that he will be retiring from the sport of football after five years with the Husker football program. Henrich participated in Nebraska’s Senior Day last week following a season-ending ACL injury he suffered in a loss to Wisconsin.
“Looking back I can say I gave everything I had, have zero regrets and have done everything I’ve wanted to do,” Henrich wrote on social media. “All the ups, the downs, the tackles, the big plays and playing in front of so many amazing fans have made this the best ride of my life.”
A local player from Omaha Burke, Henrich joined Nebraska in 2019 and soon became a key option at linebacker in the years that followed. Unfortunately, injuries were also a constant throughout Henrich’s collegiate career as the 2021 season was the only campaign where Henrich did not miss at least one game due to injury.
A shoulder injury requiring surgery in 2019 and a torn ACL in 2022 represented significant setbacks which Henrich had to overcome. But, whenever he was on the field, the linebacker was productive. A former team captain last season, Henrich ends his Nebraska career having made 204 total tackles across 35 games.
