Mike McCarthy: Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones is ‘floored’ by the latest playoff defeat to Green Bay Packers.
On Super Wild Card Weekend, the Dallas Cowboys suffer an embarrassing 48-32 home defeat to the Green Bay Packers; Mike McCarthy has only one playoff win in four years as head coach; could Bill Belichick, a six-time Super Bowl winner with the New England Patriots, replace him?
Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones said he was “floored” by the team’s crushing playoff loss at home to the Green Bay Packers on Super Wild Card Weekend, adding that he had not considered head coach Mike McCarthy’s future.
The Cowboys, seeded second in the NFC, were expected to defeat the Green Bay Packers on Sunday after winning their previous 16 home games, but were thrashed 48-32 by the seventh-seeded team.
McCarthy has one more year on his contract, and many believe he will be leaving Dallas after only one playoff win in four years as head coach.
Several high-profile head coaches are currently available on the market, including Bill Belichick, who won six Super Bowls during his 24-year tenure with the New England Patriots, which ended on Thursday.
Jones told reporters that he hasn’t given McCarthy’s future a second thought. “I understand how important it was to our fans to advance.
“The only thing on my mind for almost the entire game was not an analysis of our strategy or play, but ‘Do we get to play here again next week?'” And we cannot.”
Dallas’ loss extends their Super Bowl drought to 28 seasons, as the team has failed to advance past the Divisional Round of the playoffs during that time.
Jones added, “This seems like the most painful [playoff loss] because we all had such high expectations and hope for this team.”
“I am floored. “This is beyond my comprehension.”
Prescott: McCarthy has been amazing!
Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott, who will count $59.4 million against the salary cap in the final year of his contract next season, spoke out in support of his head coach. “He’s been amazing [McCarthy],” he added.
“I’m not sure how there could be [questions about his future], but I know the business.
“In that case, there should be something about me, to be honest.
“I’ve had this season because of him. He has been instrumental in the team’s success.
“I understand it’s about winning the Super Bowl, and that’s the league’s standard, and it’s certainly the standard here… I get it. But please add me to the list in that case.”
