ONE OF OUR OWN! NEW MEXICAN SERGIO RIVAS RETURNS FOR 2024

New Mexico United is thrilled to announce that midfielder Sergio Rivas has signed a new deal with the club, bringing him back to the Black & Yellow for the 2024 season. 2024 will be Sergio’s fourth season with the club.

“Going into the off season, keeping Sergio with us was very important for Eric and myself,” said United Sporting Director Itamar Keinan. “Sergio has shown massive growth this year and played a pivotal role for us, not only in his final product but his overall play on both sides of the ball. We believe he is just getting started and so excited to have him back with us on the field and in our community next season.

Since his arrival ahead of the 2021 season, Rivas has been terrific. He has scored 14 goals in Black & Yellow, including a career-high seven in 2023, good for second-most on the club. Over that same timeframe, he’s also assisted 13 scores, including a club-best five in 2023. Sergio has been incredibly dangerous, finishing second in shots, and chances created in 2023, as well. He led the team with a 77.5% passing percentage in the opponent’s half this season. Rivas grew up in Albuquerque, and attended Cibola High School. In 2014, he was named the Gatorade New Mexico Boys’ Soccer Player of the Year. He earned all-conference honors in college, attending Seattle University.
