After Telford Tigers overcame a spectacular comeback to defeat Peterborough Phantoms and increase their chances of qualifying for the National League play-offs, head coach Tom Watkins praised the fans for their support.
Eric Henderson scored a hat-trick as the Tigers defeated the eighth-place Solway Sharks 7-5 at home on Saturday, capping off a road victory in Bristol.
After visiting Peterborough rallied from a 5-0 deficit to draw the game 5-5 early in the third quarter, Henderson scored twice in the closing eight minutes to threaten an incredible comeback.
“In the end, it was a great result for us,” Watkins stated with relief. The fans’ support this evening, when we most needed it, is something I must mention.
After a strong first half in which they took the lead after just 19 seconds thanks to a low strike from David Thomson that went past Luke Clark in the Peterborough goal, the Tigers had looked as though they would win easily.Devon Skolevski got his name on the scoresheet by firing high into the net after Scott McKenzie extended the lead after grabbing the rebound.
