As a result of an outstanding first year following his drug penalty, Bronson Xerri has re-signed with Canterbury.
The Bulldogs confirmed on Thursday that the center will be staying with the team until the end of 2027, as he had stated in August that he planned to stay there for the long run.
After serving a four-year ban after testing positive for anabolic drugs while playing for Cronulla in 2020, Xerri started the season as an unknown quantity.
He overcame fierce competition for opportunities on a deep Bulldogs backline to finish it as a first-choice center with captain Stephen Crichton.
The Bulldogs advanced to the finals for the first time since 2016 thanks in large part to their potent attack on the edges, and the 24-year-old scored 10 tries in 19 games.
Phil Gould, general manager of football for the Bulldogs, stated, “Bronson has immediately established himself as a crucial member of our squad going forward.”
Since entering our club, he has demonstrated a high level of maturity and dedication to the Bulldog uniform.
“We think he has a bright future ahead of him in our colors, and he still has a lot of rugby league left to play.”
On November 1, Xerri entered the final year of his contract, making him the first Bulldogs player to re-sign.
Toby Sexton, a halfback who had a career-best season in 2024, is the first of many off-contract players the team will now focus on.
Moving forward Priorities are also probably going to be given to utility Kurt Mann and coach Cameron Ciraldo’s favorite, Kurtis Morrin.
The team is also in a position to make important choices over the futures of Ryan Sutton and Drew Hutchison, who are both off-contract.
Sutton’s two years at the Bulldogs have been marred by a terrible string of injuries, while Hutchison started 2024 as the team’s first-choice halfback before dropping down the rankings and into reserve grade.
