Manchester United are ‘exploring’ a move for Bayern Munich’s Noussair Mazraoui, according to X reporter Florian Plettenberg.
The player is near the ‘top’ of their list of objectives, and his present club wants between €20-25 million for his services, with West Ham also listed as a possible contender. He has been informed that he can ‘leave’ the Allianz Arena for the proper price. If United signs Mazraoui, the door may open for Aaron Wan-Bissaka to go. He has only one year left on his contract at Old Trafford.
Erik ten Hag has praised the club’s management on the transfer front. He stated, “It is great that we are also on the front foot; we are really proactive. So, [the] leadership is doing an excellent job at the moment, and that is how we want to function as a unit. We are highly ambitious, and you must be proactive and prepared for the season. The quicker you bring your guys in, the faster you can work on your team.”
Mazraoui is under contract at Bayern until 2026 meaning they are under no pressure to cash in on him in this window and they can wait for the right offer to come in for his services. The Bundesliga giants have turned to former Manchester City skipper Vincent Kompany as their new manager this summer after cutting ties with Thomas Tuchel in a move that has raised eyebrows across Europe, especially after his Burnley side were relegated to the Championship in the last campaign.
It appears the ex-centre-back isn’t a fan of Mazraoui and could let him head out the exit door with United linked. Ten Hag has admitted that he doesn’t have as much of a say in transfer dealings as he used to have under the new ownership regime. He said: “That basis has been greatly strengthened. A lot has been taken away from me in scouting and recruitment. That is necessary. You need a very strong structure in scouting and transfer policy. I can only be happy that I have Dan, Jason and Christopher at my side. The club has acquired incredible know-how and knowledge of the market that helps me.
“We have only been working with these new people for a few weeks but Ashworth is close by – a room away. The new owners take me more into the process. It’s early days but the signs are very good.”
Mazraoui would boost United’s defensive department if he joined. The Morocco international, who has 28 caps under his belt, rose up through the academy ranks at Ajax.
He played for their B team before breaking into the senior set-up in 2018. The full-back went on to make 137 appearances in all competitions and chipped in with 10 goals. Bayern then snapped him up in 2022 and he has since played 55 matches for them altogether. They won the title in his first year.
