Even the legendary Pep Guardiola, who took Philippe Clement’s place, would be powerless to stop Rangers from defending for Motherwell’s first goal.

However, the manager would be better off avoiding selecting guys who constantly provide nothing and, if anything, simply make things worse for their teammates.

As much of Rangers’ problems at Hampden can be attributed to Cyriel Dessers, who had a clear one-on-one opportunity from inside the box and a rebound with the goal gaping.

Rangers will have extra issues as a result of Cyriel Dessers’ sitter.
The Nigerian international wasted a 2 v 1 opportunity with 30 yards of room to play in Nedim Bajrami not only by destroying two chances but also by only finding the Motherwell defender.

But just like at Pittodrie, Rangers lost 1-0 rather than tied due to Dessers’ incompetence.

Shortly before halftime, Michael Stewart, who was on commentary duty for Premier Sports, was not pleased by Dessers’ attempt:

“It comes out to him, the goal is at his mercy.”

The Premier Sports cameras then cut to the crowd with Stewart summing up the mood in the Rangers support:

“You can see what the supporters think about it,” as fans stood in shock shaking their heads.

Stewart said, “My first thought is, ‘that’s a goal,’ because you see the opportunity coming out to him, but that’s another chance that goes a-begging.”
He realizes that he is responsible for the goal. “I mean, that’s a sitter, that is an absolute sitter.”
Then, as the Premier Sports cameras panned to the crowd, Stewart summed up the mood in the Rangers supporters’ section:
As the audience shook their heads and stood in shock, the speaker remarked, “You can see what the supporters think about it.”

If Rangers’ No. 9 is also missing sitters, they cannot continue to give up soft goals.

While Dessers’ return after halftime was welcomed, Danilo’s appearance on the bench wasn’t until he scored in the 50th minute, one of Dessers’ most characteristic moments.
