Shai Hope led the West Indies to a commanding total in the second ODI against England in Antigua, thanks in part to his 17th century in the ODI format.

In terms of West Indians’ hundreds in ODIs, Hope now holds the third-highest total. He just has Chris Gayle and Brian Lara ahead of him after tying the great Desmond Haynes on the century count.

Having lost both openers by single-figure margins, Hope entered the game at No. 4 with the West Indies in trouble.

Hope and Keacy Carty helped the hosts save the innings. The pair put England on the defensive with a 143-run partnership.

Adil Rashid dismissed Carty for 71, but Hope and Sherfane Rutherford, who is having a fantastic ODI season, kept making things worse for England.

As West Indies amassed a respectable total, Rutherford hit his fourth consecutive half-century in ODIs, and Hope went on to complete his 17th century. Finally, in the 47th over, Hope was out for 117.

It’s interesting to note that Hope helped his team reach a goal of 326 last year by smashing a century against England at this very location.
