John Hartson, a former player for Celtic and Wales, has said that he doesn’t think Celtic made the right move in permanently signing Adam Idah.
Adam spent last season on loan in Glasgow before joining Celtic from Norwich City. He was eventually transferred to the Scottish champions for £9.5 million after weeks of negotiations during which Norwich City, the English team,
requested a larger price.
Under Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers, Kyogo Furuhashi is still the team’s first-choice striker, although the Cork native has only managed five goals this season despite scoring nine goals in 19 games the previous season.
Speaking about the situation this week, Hartson—who had firmly supported the signing of Idah in the summer—acknowledged that he and others might have been too eager to sign the young Irish forward.
Hartson stated, “I think we all got, not sucked in, but we were all impressed last season,” during an interview with the Go Radio Football Show podcast.
“He truly turned into a hero. a well-known figure for himself. By the way, I scored some crucial goals in the last stretch.
“He hasn’t gotten started right away. The fact that Kyogo is extremely difficult to remove is one of the causes.
“Sometimes, when you feel that you are next in line and not the number one striker, it can affect your confidence.”
Hartson feels the club has some of the blame for the signing, despite his frustration with Idah’s play this season.
“I won’t be too critical of him, but I’m not sure who else Celtic had their sights set on the previous season.
“He was nine million pounds. Many supporters may question whether we could have acquired a more talented striker.
“His success on loan was one of the factors that led Celtic to recruit him. He appeared to be the clear pick.
At 3 p.m. tomorrow, Celtic will play Motherwell.
