This week, Boston College Fencing will participate in two competitions. On Thursday, the Eagles go to Harvard for the 2025 Beanpot. On Saturday, they return home to host the inaugural Syd Fadner Invitational.
At 1 p.m., the Eagles will play Wheaton, Wellesley, and Temple in the Syd Fadner Invitational. The Beanpot from the previous season Last year, the Eagles finished second to Harvard with a combined 4-2 record. In the men’s division, they triumphed over MIT 14-13 in the third round and Brandeis 15-12 in the first. In the second round, they were defeated 17–10 by Harvard. Sabre and Foil both finished 1-2, however Men’s Epee had a perfect 3-0 overall record.
On the women’s side, BC defeated Brandeis 19-8 in round 1 and MIT 19-8 in round 3, while falling to Harvard 12-15 in round 2. The Eagles swept all three weapons on the Women’s side against Brandeis and MIT, including two 8-1 Women’s foil wins. Women’s foil finished a perfect 3-0 on the night, while Sabre and Epee both earned 2-1 records. Syd Fadner Invitational The Eagles will host the first ever Syd Fadner Invitational on Saturday in honor of long-time coach Syd Fadner. Fadner, who retired in 2018 after 27 years in charge, guided the Eagles to 232 wins during her tenure. Her 27 years in charge was the third-longest tenure of current BC coaches at the time. Fadner was a three-time Northeast Fencing Conference Women’s Coach of the Year, and instrumental in the creation of the annual Beanpot Fencing Tournament. This year will be its 18th year of competition. She also served as a member of the NCAA Northeast Region Fencing Committee for many years. Last Time Out BC last competed in the Nikki Franke Classic nearly a month ago. The Eagles put three in the top 10 and eight in the top 20 across all weapons on the women’s side. Lydia Johnson was the top finisher as she came in second in the sabre.
