Chiefs aim to replace Travis Kelce as Harold Fannin Jr., an NFL Draft prospect, discloses a meeting
Although Travis Kelce is coming back to play for the Chiefs for the thirteenth time, the team is clearly looking to the future at tight end. Bowling Green merchandise On Up & Adams this week, Harold Fannin Jr. disclosed that he was scheduled to meet with Kansas City before the NFL Draft, which starts on April 24.
Fannin added that he has appointments with the Broncos, Lions, and Browns. Fannin recorded 117 receptions, 1,555 receiving yards, and 11 total touchdowns during his third and last season in college. In 2024, his yardage and catch totals were the highest of any FBS school. Fannin is expected to be selected in the middle of the draft, giving the Chiefs multiple chances to choose him there if they so want.
In addition to the No. 133 pick in the fourth round, they also control the No. 66 and No. 95 overall selections in the third round. Late in the second round, Kansas City also has the No. 63 pick, but they might decide it’s too early to take the gifted pass-catcher.
Still, he finished the regular season in a respectable fifth place among tight ends in receiving yards. The Chiefs fell 40–22 to the Eagles in the Super Bowl, and the tight end was silent in the end. He finished with just 39 yards and failed to catch a pass in the first half. The Chiefs have other choices for a Kelce replacement besides maybe selecting Fannin, including as using Noah Gray, the team’s current backup. Before the previous season, the tight end agreed to a three-year contract extension with the team, which would keep him there until 2027. As Patrick Mahomes started to rely more on Gray last season, he also recorded a career-high 437 receiving yards.
