in an elevation of 3700 meters, on the eastern face of the Matterhorn peak, they are thought to have fallen to their deaths in the Hörnligrat. The Valais cantonal police said that a search flight was the only reason their remains were found on Saturday.

Last Wednesday, the two climbers planned to use the Hörnligrat to ascend the Matterhorn. A family member reported their disappearance two days later. Air-Zermatt and the Zermatt rescue station coordinated a search flight on Saturday morning. At the base of the eastern face of the Furgg Glacier, the two climbers who had gone missing were found. They were not connected to one another by a rope and plummeted between 500 and 600 meters. Although the victims have not yet been officially recognized, the missing persons report suggests that they were foreign climbers. To determine the precise reason of the accident, an investigation was launched.
