You can see how the people of Zermatt lived in the 19th century and be in awe of the sight of the broken rope from the first ascent of the Matterhorn in 1865, when four out of seven climbers perished. You will also be amazed by the sight of “Theo,” the 16th-century “mercenary” who failed to cross the Theodul Pass.
