Air-zermatt.ch photo HÀ NỘI Two Vietnamese mountain climbers have been rescued after becoming stranded and in difficulty on a well-known Alps summit due to difficult weather conditions. On September 24, Swiss helicopter service provider Air Zermatt posted on its homepage that two Vietnamese climbers who had become stranded on the Matterhorn had been successfully rescued by its rescue team.
The notification stated that just after 7 a.m. on Monday, rescuers in Zermatt got an emergency contact informing them that two Vietnamese climbers were in trouble atop the Matterhorn. At that time, the weather was so severe that it was impossible to rescue someone on foot or by air. Three rescue experts from the Zermatt rescue station made the decision to walk up the Matterhorn to the scene of the accident at 1:00 pm. After being successfully transported to Schwarzsee by Zermatt Bergbahnen, the rescuers proceeded to walk through difficult terrain. The two climbers were discovered in trouble by the rescue experts at a height of more than 3500 meters.
Below the usual path, the Vietnamese climbers found themselves stranded in challenging terrain. They were extremely hypothermic and ill-prepared, wearing flimsy sweatpants and light shoes. The climbers were unable to be airlifted out of the Matterhorn wall at that moment due to the unfavorable weather conditions. According to Air Zermatt’s homepage, the rescue experts had to use a rope system to bring the trapped climbers back up to the standard path after rappelling down to them. The notice added that the rescuers faced a major obstacle because of the new snow and ice. The rescuers and the stranded climbers were able to seek safety at the Hörnli Hut’s winter shelter.
