Alex Bregman, who is already a free agent and is being considered by a number of organizations, including the Houston Astros, is the main character in a new soap opera that is being written during Major League Baseball’s winter.

The third baseman’s demands, made through his agent Scott Boras, could exclude him from the Astros’ plans, which puts the Texas Nine in a difficult position as they try to keep him.

Houston is unwilling to accept Bregman’s demand for a six-year, $200 million contract because the 30-year-old, who blasted 26 home runs in 2024, turned down the Astros’ 156 million dollar offer.

Scott Boras does not view the Astros’ offer negatively, according to Essentially Sports, and the Texans already have a rival team interested in Bregman’s services—the Detroit Tigers—who are going through a significant sporting reorganization.

As a 30-year-old, Bregman is no longer guaranteed a multi-million dollar contract in the Major Leagues. Although Detroit has not made an offer for Bregman, the third baseman may think about leaving Houston now that coach AJ Hinch is on board.

The Astros are hoping that Bregman would change his mind and stay with the Houston organization. If the third baseman decides to stay with the Texas team, they are planning a rotation that would start Jose Altuve in left field and Isaac Paredes at second base.
Since the player is one of the most watched in Houston, the fans’ demand to keep the third baseman is beginning to have a significant impact on Bregman’s decision.
