Brown lost quarterback competitions in the preseason the last two seasons. A year ago, he had the upper hand against Kyle McCord before a couple of shaky practices late in training camp caused coach Ryan Day to turn to McCord.

After McCord decided to transfer following OSU’s loss to Michigan, Brown started the Cotton Bowl game against Missouri with a chance to stake his claim to the job. But he left the game in the first half after injuring his ankle, the last of a series of injuries in 2023 that limited his playing time.
