The Chick-Fil-A Peach Bowl said on Monday that there isn’t enough space on the sideline at Mercedes Benz-Stadium for the Texas Longhorns mascot, therefore Bevo will not be traveling to Atlanta once more.
For the same reason, Bevo was prohibited from attending the SEC championship game earlier this month at the same location. On January 1, Texas plays Arizona State in the quarterfinals of the College Football Playoffs.
We adore all of the great traditions of college football, and Bevo is undoubtedly one of the best,” the Peach Bowl said in a statement. “Unfortunately, the sidelines of Mercedes-Benz Stadium just do not have enough space.
Unfortunately, we will not be able to have Bevo on the field due to stadium restrictions and the need to prioritize the safety of the players, Bevo, all network cameras, support personnel, cheerleaders, and photographers.
To fit safely on the sideline, the 1,700-pound Bevo XV, which has a horn spread of 58 inches, would require a cage of considerable size. Bevo traveled to the 2019 Sugar Bowl, when he notoriously charged Georgia’s mascot, Uga, out of his pen.
