Blues-rock electric guitar sensation Samantha Fish says, “I don’t understand that at all. A lot of people look at the music of their youth as being more meaningful than something they heard just recently. Nostalgia has its place, but I like to go forward.

I’m always moved and inspired by music, and during the past few years, I’ve learned a lot. My musical career shouldn’t have ended at the age of 14. You’re just starting off at that age. Furthermore, let’s face it: some music may not be appreciated till later in life.

This is the situation with Fish’s recent infatuation with Otis Redding. She claims that she could never have comprehended him as a child. “I was unable to empathize with the feelings he was conveying, as his performances were rooted in such pain.” I had to have some life of my own. I had to experience my own suffering. However, some of the music I like as a youngster now has a different effect on me. She chuckles. This list serves as a kind of current self-portrait. The options can be very different in five years.

I mean, who doesn’t have a Rolling Stones song in their top ten? One of my all-time favorite bands is The Stones, and I adore a lot of their music, especially Sticky Fingers. I could easily choose that record, but I feel like I’ve discussed it a hundred times before, so I’m going with Exile on Main St. instead, which many people consider to be one of the best records ever made. I honestly can’t argue with that. With so many wonderful songs, this is truly a unique CD. It endures in every aspect, and I grew up adoring it. In fact, it seems to signify more and more to me as the years pass.

It is a double album that is worthy of being such. You may sort of lose yourself in the variety of styles and emotions. One amazing rock song is “Rocks Off,” while another blues-rock song is “Stop Breaking Down.” In regards to “Rip This Joint,” what can I say? It’s simply enormous. You are taken on an American musical journey throughout the entire CD. “Let It Loose” is my favorite song on the record. The band has never played it live and it’s considered a B-side. Maybe it’s the choir in the end, but for some reason, it simply resonates with me. It is a lovely song.
