Longhorns quarterback Quinn Ewers is reportedly suffering with an ankle injury ahead of Texas’s huge matchup with Texas A&M in the regular season finale.
Ewers was hurt on a hip-drop tackle during Texas’ 31-14 victory over the Kentucky Wildcats on Sunday; this is the identical play that has been outlawed in the NFL. After the game, Sarkisian stated that Ewers’ ankle “just kind of kept tightening up on him,” so the Longhorns changed their offensive strategy.
Ewers attempted to play off the injuries by claiming it was “football” and that it “happens” during a game.
Ewers said, It’s just a little tender. I guess he basically rolled up on it a little bit when I stepped up and kind of took off running for a little while before getting hip-dropped. I was at the 50-yard line. However, it’s football, and such things do occur.
The health of Texas’ starting quarterback continues to be a concern as the team gets ready for its last regular season game. The “plan” of the squad, according to Sarkisian, is for Ewers to practice on Monday.
According to Longhorns beat writer Anwar Richardson, Texas football coach Steve Sarkisian stated that he believes Quinn Ewers is doing fine, but they intend on him practicing this afternoon.
Ewers, on the other hand, didn’t sound like a quarterback who anticipated missing the season’s last game, particularly when facing a legendary opponent.
“I know this whole team is fired up for just another opportunity and especially for this one to be coming back, the tradition that it has in it,” said Ewers.
Ahead of the Texas game versus the Aggies on Saturday night, fans will be closely monitoring the quarterback situation. Arch Manning, a former five-star quarterback recruit, will probably start if Ewers is unable to play.
