Cincinnati Reds star shortstop Elly De La Cruz has something to say as Miami Dolphins All-Pro wide receiver Tyreek Hill and three-time Olympic medalist and sprinter Noah Lyles argue over who would win a race.
On Thursday night, De La Cruz entered the argument between the two speedsters on X, formerly Twitter.
“They believe they are quick! “I’ll definitely defeat them,” De La Cruz wrote.
The conflict between Hill and Lyles started in August after the latter won a bronze medal in the men’s 200-meter event at the Olympics in Paris. Hill accused Lyles of fabricating the COVID-19 virus’s effects after his fairly underwhelming performance. The wide receiver with the Dolphins then declared that he would win a race against Lyles. Lyles responded by acting as though he had forgotten Hill’s name.
After Lyles’s recent race against well-known YouTube streamer IShowSpeed, in which the American sprinter narrowly defeated him, Hill then rekindled the discussion. After Hill made fun of Lyles, the Dolphins receiver retorted that he would beat him in a race, just like he did against iShowSpeed.
Additionally, don’t ignore De La Cruz, even if this discussion appears to be centered on Hill’s 4.29 speed and Lyles’ American record-breaking runs.
He has stolen 102 bases since making his Major League Baseball debut in June 2023, including a league-high 67 swipes in 2024. De La Cruz placed first in MLB in 2023 and third in 2024 according to the Statcast statistic for sprint speed. In April, the Reds star smashed an inside-the-park home run and was timed to run from home to home in less than 15 seconds.
He’s speedy, to put it simply.
Hopefully, the sports world will eventually witness how quick they are in contrast to players like Hill and Lyles.
