Ace Frehley, the original guitarist for KISS, has a fairly tense relationship with his former bandmates Gene Simmons and Paul Stanley. In a recent interview with Ultimate Guitar, he clarified that he normally gets along with the majority of the musicians that have performed with the group.
Frehley performed with two other former KISS guitarists, Vinnie Vincent and Bruce Kulick, in a special event dubbed Creatures Fest in May 2022. Frehley told Ultimate Guitar that he first met Vincent during the occasion. Vincent, who replaced Frehley in KISS in 1982, is a reclusive performer who rarely does live shows.
It was quite fascinating. “Very few people think I’ve never met Vinnie Vincent in all these years,” Frehley said. Furthermore, it wasn’t because I was attempting to avoid him or the other way around. Our paths simply never crossed for whatever reason.
Frehley claimed that he and Vincent “got along famously,” but he was taken aback by how much shorter his fellow guitarist was than him.
Frehley continued, “[O]ther than that, he got there and played some nice guitar licks.” “It was a fun night, and we jammed together.”
Vincent was sitting atop a model of a tank that was part of KISS’ tour when Frehley, Vincent, and Kulick performed a number of KISS songs together at Creatures Fest. A drum was used for drum machine, while a musician named Shane Smith sang and played bass. Founding KISS drummer Peter Criss also performed with Frehley at the festival.
The majority of KISS members are friendly.
“I’m friends with all the guys in KISS,” Frehley told Ultimate Guitar, adding that he is “really good friends” with Kulick, who was a member of the band from 1984 until 1996.
“Even [current KISS drummer] Eric Singer is a close friend of mine,” he added. And Vinnie and I are now pals. None of these individuals ever caused me any trouble.
Then Frehley made a slight jab at Simmons and Stanley.
Paul had issues with many of th
Naturally, Frehley was alluding to the fact that KISS performed their final gig at Madison Square Garden on December 2, an occasion to which he was either not invited or chose not to attend.
Plans for Frehley’s 2024 Tour
According to Ticketmaster and StubHub, the 72-year-old Rock & Roll Hall of Famer currently has a few confirmed shows scheduled for 2024, when he will be performing solo.
Tickets for Frehley’s next solo shows are currently on sale at a number of websites, including StubHub.
The Upcoming Album by Frehley
On February 23, 2024, Frehley’s new studio album, 10,000 Volts, will be released. He and Steve Brown, the lead guitarist for the glam-metal band Trixter from New Jersey, co-wrote and co-produced the album.
em for whatever reason. “And Gene,” he added. However, since those guys are retired and their careers are coming to an end while mine is booming, I’d prefer not to even bring up the subject. That’s kind of lovely, then.
Regarding Potentially Going on Tour with Vincent and Kulick: When asked by Ultimate Guitar if he would ever think about going on tour with Vincent and Kulick, Frehley wasn’t really receptive to the notion.
He stated, “I don’t really see that happening in the future.” “I kind of like having my own band and running my own show.”
Frehley also insisted that there wouldn’t be enough time for the three artists performing in such a show to perform every song they would want to in a single show.
Consider this: how many solo albums have I released? And when I perform, I also do some KISS favorites,” he clarified. Therefore, it would be quite difficult to collaborate with other guitarists who also have songs that they’ve written. … [I]t would be a three-hour show. And at age 72, I don’t feel like doing a three-hour show.”
