Fans of the Texas Longhorns have probably not given former head coach Tom Herman much thought lately. After leading the team to four bowl victories and a 32-18 record as head coach, Texas dismissed Herman in January 2021. Although a Sugar Bowl victory in his second year was the high point of his tenure, the team’s performance against weaker opponents and Herman’s constant criticism for his immature conduct will be the main memories of his stay.
Herman is still under criticism for his conduct at his new head coaching position at FAU, even though he is no longer in the burnt orange and some time has gone by. Herman was observed getting furious with the Bulls’ head coach, Alex Golesh, following the Owls’ 44-21 loss to in-state foe USF on Friday night. Golesh had basically dismissed Herman during their postgame handshake.
Herman rushed after Golesh and screamed at him before being dragged away after Golesh gave him a drive-by handshake and accompanying shoulder check. Brett McMurphy of Action Network revealed on X that the Bulls’ late two-point convert with a 23-point lead might have been the cause of this catastrophe. But Golesh was probably in possession of a bit of a grudge from last season after Herman kicked an onside kick while up 42.
Speaking to the media following the victory, the USF head coach subsequently affirmed this. “We returned to retrieve it after I promised to do so a year ago. “I’m fine, whatever was said,” Golesh remarked. It’s safe to say that these two programs’ rivalry is only beginning. It’s uncertain how long either coach will be involved, though, as Herman is having trouble succeeding at FAU and Golesh might be a popular coaching contender in the future.
Although some Texas supporters struggled with the decision to move on, it’s increasingly becoming clear that it was the right one.
