Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal will be looking to escape more than just a loss when they travel to Newcastle.
Additionally, they will want to avoid the mocking remarks made about their manager’s tirades as a referee following their most recent Premier League trip.TalkSPORT will broadcast the Gunners’ Premier League match against Eddie Howe’s team live on Saturday at 12:30 p.m.
Arsenal, who have only managed one draw and one loss in their last two league games, will be eager to resume their winning ways.
However, they must prevent a recurrence of the events from their previous trip to the top division to play the Magpies.
In a fierce match at St James’ Park back in November 2023, Arsenal lost to Newcastle by a slim margin of 1-0.
The game was ultimately decided by a contentious goal, which was scored by Anthony Gordon for the Magpies in the 64th minute.
However, VAR had to review the goal for at least three different situations that may have disqualified it.
In addition to a probable foul on Gabriel prior to the goal and a possible offside to consider, there was a hint that the ball went out of play during the build-up.
But in the end, none of these offenses were upheld.
The goal was declared to stand, thus giving Newcastle the vital three points.
The encounter was one of just five games Arteta’s team would lose this season because the Gunners were unable to rally for the game.
When asked about his thoughts on the officiating choices after the game, the Gunners manager did not hold back.
“It’s a complete disgrace, that’s what it is,” Arteta swore. “So much is on the line.
“We’ve worked so hard to compete at the top level, and you have no idea how many messages we’ve received stating that this cannot go on.
It’s humiliating. There is too much on the line for it to be appropriate. I don’t want to fall into these people’s grasp.
“I’m not sure how to react. We are wasting our time, and I am wasting mine.
The fact that it was permitted is a complete disgrace. It shouldn’t be a goal for a number of reasons.
“I have lived in this nation for over 20 years, and the officiating is not even close to being on par with the world’s top league. I’m sick to be involved in this.
Arteta’s violent outburst was not well received by everyone; many thought his remarks were excessive.
In fact, the FA later penalized him for his remarks, but he was later exonerated of any wrongdoing.
However, following the game, commentator Gary Lineker used X, which was then known as Twitter, to voice his dissatisfaction of the Arsenal manager, quoting some of his particular remarks.
“Mikel Arteta is having a proper rant after the match, and it’s embarrassing,” he wrote. It is a disgrace.
Shearer, a Newcastle icon and fellow pundit, joined him in making fun of the management.
“What was?” Shearer replied on X in response to Lineker’s remark, mockingly asking what Arteta had found embarrassing.
Arsenal supporters were incensed by his remark and took to social media to respond to Shearer in kind.
One fan tweeted, “Come on @alanshearer let’s not do this,” on X.
Another said: “The offside, the foul, the ball going out… Would you like me to continue????”
