Ryan Stig, who last played in the NRL in 2011, made a comeback to rugby league last season, playing for the Knights NSW Cup team after being diagnosed with Lyme’s disease in 2012. He played 14 games for the Limoux Grizzlies in 2019.
The 34-year-old playmaker, who has played in 13 games during this time, is keen to return to the team’s NRL squad and has stated that he would love to do so while the Knights halves issue is still up in the air.
He told Wide World of Sports, “I never dreamed I’d play league again. A few years ago, I was more concerned with whether I would live or die. Playing in the NSW Cup last season was a significant step, and I now feel strong and fit.
“To see what happens, I would like to participate in an NRL preseason. I am 34 years old, but I don’t feel it because I haven’t played much football in the last 14 years.
I feel I have a lot to offer the younger guys at the club and all I’m asking for is a crack.
Stig still has to compete with players like Jackson Hastings, Jack Cogger, Tyson Gamble, Will Pryce, and Phoenix Crossland, so it won’t be easy for him to strive for a spot on the Knights roster and expect to practice with the first-grade club during the 2025 preseason.
