Speaking of utterly made-up situations, Michael Sweet recently stated that, in the improbable event that Stryper is ever inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, he would like either Rob Halford or Ozzy Osbourne to do so. Given how unlikely the rest of this is, you might as well state that you want Lemmy Kilmister to do it at that point.
Sweet was asked who he would like to induct Stryper into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame if it were ever to happen in a recent interview with Idaho Falls, Idaho’s 94.9 and 104.5 The Pick radio station (transcribed by Blabbermouth):
“Oh, dude. If he’s here long enough, I’d love to see someone like Ozzy Osbourne, who is incredibly distinct and controversial. It would simply be different, you know. Or Rob Halford, [JUDAS] PRIEST[‘s]. He is a major source of motivation for me. But I suppose you never say never. I don’t mean to be critical, but I simply don’t see it ever occurring. You see, bands like FOREIGNER have a hard time getting inducted. Is STRYPER imaginable? It would be unreal, indeed.
A miracle would occur, and miracles do occur. However, a lot would need to happen for that to occur. But why not? I will say this, and I say it as humbly as I can. We have earned our spot like any other band. Do we have to wait another 10 years? Maybe. Another 20 years? Maybe. But we’ve got gold and platinum albums and we’ve broken barriers and broken down walls and accomplished things that have never been accomplished. So why not?”
Since that seems like a very unlikely scenario, I’m really glad Sweet isn’t getting his hopes up. I don’t think Stryper would receive a vote even if they were nominated, especially because fan votes are counted. Furthermore, I’m fairly certain that there would be a riot in Cleveland if Stryper were admitted before Motörhead.
