Aaron Rodgers is undoubtedly going through one of his most difficult seasons to date. The New York Jets quarterback is still not performing at his best even after he recovered from the Achilles injury that kept him out of action the previous season, raising questions about the team’s prospects of qualifying for the playoffs.
Leading the Jets back to the postseason was Rodgers’ goal when he joined the team the previous season. But in the opening game of 2023, an Achilles tear ended his campaign. He came back this year hoping to break the team’s 13-year postseason drought.
However, Rodgers’ statistics after seven games of the 2024 season paint a dismal picture. Out of 256 tries, he has only completed 158 passes for 1,663 yards, 10 touchdowns, and seven interceptions. The Jets’ poor record of 2–5 is frustrating both fans and pundits.
According to expert Mike Florio, Rodgers’ poor play may be the result of age’s unavoidable effects rather than rust or bad luck.
Florio talked about Rodgers’ health in a recent Pro Football Talk segment, pointing out that his age is probably a contributing factor in his numerous persistent problems. Rodgers’ ankle ailment from a few weeks ago was notably mentioned by Florio, who also mentioned that the quarterback was dealing with other problems.
“[Jets’ head coach] Jeff Ulbrich, a couple of weeks ago, when Aaron Rodgers had the ankle injury, mentioned that there was some hamstring involvement as well,” Florio said. Additionally, there’s a knee that keeps becoming bigger. That was discussed by Rodgers yesterday. “Happy 40th birthday.”
But some contend that aging isn’t the only factor contributing to Rodgers’ difficulties. The Jets’ performance has been greatly impacted by the offensive line’s inconsistency, which has exposed Rodgers, and the receivers’ inability to break free from defenders.
