Knights lock up boom back-rower with multi-year extension — Transfer Centre

The Newcastle Knights have received a big boost by locking up exciting back-rower Dylan Lucas with a two-year contract extension through until the end of the 2027 season.

“The Newcastle Knights has extended the playing contract of exciting youngster Dylan Lucas until at the least the end of the 2027 National Rugby League season,” the club said in a statement.

Lucas, 24, is another player who has progressed through the Knights pathways system to establish himself in the NRL, after joining the club in 2019.

The versatile centre worked his way through the lower grades, including a successful transition to include the backrow in his playing positions,

becoming a consistent NRL player since debuting against the Dolphins in round three 2023 at McDonald Jones Stadium.

2024 has been a breakout season for Lucas, proving his versatility by being equally at home in the centres or the edge back row,

utilising his pace and athleticism to break the line in attack and defend against the best attackers in the NRL.

A proud Wiradjuri man, Lucas has established himself as a leader in the club’s community and indigenous programs,

including the 2024 Knights Ken Stephens Medallist and Community Player of the Year.

nib Newcastle Knights Director of Football Peter Parr said the 2023 Knights Rookie of the Year has developed into a key player in the Knights squad.

“Over the past couple of years Dylan has become an important member of our NRL team.” Parr said.

“Dylan has been rewarded with representative honours, our expectation is he will continue to improve and play a pivotal role for the Knights moving forward.”
