Gene Simmons has publicly apologized for remarks he made toward David Lee Roth, the frontman of Van Halen.
In a previous interview, the Kiss singer appeared to liken Roth to a “bloated, naked Elvis.
Roth served as Kiss’s opening act for the rock group’s End of the Road tour in 2020, which was canceled because of the epidemic.
Roth was no longer on the tour when it resumed earlier this month.
In an interview with Rolling Stone, Simmons affirmed that he was no longer the band’s support act.
Simmons noted that no one did what Dave did in his prime. Roth was once referred to as “the ultimate frontman.
Simmons went on, “I don’t know what happened to him… something.” And you get Dave of today. I would rather think of Elvis Presley when he was at his best. Back in Memphis, you know, doing all that, sneering lips. I don’t want to imagine Elvis on the bathroom floor, obese and nude.
In response to the interview, Roth frequently posted a picture of a toddler giving the middle finger on Instagram with the message, “Roth to Simmons.
“I don’t mean to hurt people’s feelings, and every once in a while, diarrhoea of the mouth comes out,” Simmons said in an apology for his comments in an interview with Us Weekly.
According to how they put it together, I believe I stated something along the lines of, “Nobody touched David in his prime.” Not [Mick] Jagger, not Robert Plant. He ruled as king. Then, in some way, there was a transition to “I don’t want to see that” and “Elvis, bloated on the ground, fat and naked.
It doesn’t matter if I wasn’t referring to David,” he went on. The fact that I offended David is more significant than the intention. I therefore truly apologize for that. I didn’t intend to offend him. It makes me think of the guy who says, “Hey, buddy, I’m sorry, I didn’t mean to run you over,” as he exits a vehicle. What the f*** is the difference, then? Someone has run you over.
