The strategic vision for the continued growth and development of football in Australia has been further strengthened with the appointment of three new members to Football Australia’s Football Development Committee (FDC).
With their extensive experience, expertise, and in-depth knowledge of the game, former Socceroo Cap #397 Mark Schwarzer OAM, Matilda Cap #89 Di Alagich, and high-performance specialist Anthony Crea have joined the FDC.
In order to find people with special talents and knowledge of the national team, these appointments adhere to a set procedure, guaranteeing that the FDC will continue to make a significant contribution to Football Australia’s strategic football development projects.
They will join current members of the Football Australia Board, including former Matilda (Cap #108) Heather Garriock, Football Australia CEO James Johnson, and Football Australia Board Member Sam Ciccarello. A well-rounded approach to the growth of football throughout Australia is ensured by the different perspectives and knowledge that this group together brings to the table.
“The addition of Di, Mark, and Anthony adds a new dynamic to the Football Development Committee,” said FDC Chair Heather Garriock. Their distinct skill set and profound knowledge of the game at all levels will be crucial in determining how Australian football develops in the future. As we continue to improve our routes and general football strategy, I’m eager to see what new perspectives and ideas they will offer.
“The Football Development Committee plays a crucial role in advising Football Australia as it continues to drive key initiatives for both elite and grassroots football,” stated James Johnson, CEO of Football Australia, in reference to the game’s ongoing development at all levels in Australia. The Committee’s knowledge is further strengthened by the addition of Di Alagich, Mark Schwarzer, and Anthony Crea, which puts us in a strong position to handle the changing possibilities and challenges of Australian football development.
“We are thrilled to have these esteemed Australian football leaders join us, each contributing a distinct viewpoint. As we continue to build on Mark’s reputation as one of Australia’s greatest goalkeepers, Di’s commitment to the women’s game, and Anthony’s proficiency in high performance and sports science,
Johnson said, “Football Australia’s continued commitment to ensuring the continued growth and success of football across the nation is reflected in the new appointments to the Football Development Committee.”

The Football Australia Board oversees the FDC’s operations, and members are chosen for their specialized knowledge and expertise in pertinent fields. Co-opted members are appointed with a two-year term, and their appointments are subject to Board confirmation.
“I am honored to be part of the Football Development Committee and contribute to the ongoing growth of football in Australia,” said Mark Schwarzer, who was excited to join the FDC. I’m excited to collaborate with the Committee and provide my insights to help mentor the upcoming crop of Australian football players.
Di Alagich went on: “I’m excited to contribute my viewpoint to the tremendous progress that Australian football is seeing, particularly for women and girls. Working with the Committee on significant projects that will keep the game moving forward excites me.
“High-performance strategies are essential for the development of football at both the grassroots and elite levels,” said Anthony Crea. I can’t wait to collaborate with Football Australia to make sure our players and teams have the resources they need to succeed.
