James Hetfield, the frontman of Metallica, is adamant that the trash metal legends will never settle for playing only their hits and becoming just another band with a legacy.
Papa Het promises that won’t happen, even if the well-liked metal heroes have more than enough hits to sell out arena tours without ever putting out a new song.
In celebration of their most recent album, 72 Seasons, which was only released last year, the band is presently embarking on a big global tour. Additionally, a few of the songs from that album are already mainstays in the band’s live repertoire.
Metallica won’t let the creative juices stop flowing, even though they still want to create new music and their audience are still receptive to the new content.
“The fact that the 72 Seasons album is well received and that some of the songs we’re playing live work and they kind of fit in seamlessly with all the catalog, all the albums we have,” Hetfield says on the Metallica Report podcast.
“You have to push people to listen to some of the new stuff as well, even though we know they want to hear the greatest.
“We most definitely do not wish to become a legacy band that only performs their best songs.”
Metallica has revealed their 2025 North American tour schedule, which includes headlining appearances at Sonic Temple and Sick New World festivals.
Pantera, Limp Bizkit, Suicidal Tendencies, and Ice Nine Kills will provide support at some cities during the 21-date tour, which is scheduled to run from April to June of next year.
Below is a complete list of dates. The dates follow Metallica’s M72 world tour, which began in 2023 following the publication of 72 Seasons.
