Around 5 p.m. CT on Monday, 247Sports posted a graphic on Instagram that read, “BREAKING NEWS: Texas QB Quinn Ewers will sit out the rest of the season to prepare for the NFL Draft.” It seems like they were ahead of the breaking news.
People had already seen the message and the information had spread like wildfire before it was swiftly removed. In every part of the nation, people were already discussing the succession plan, which was now fairly clear: Arch Manning.
Rumors were swiftly put an end to, nonetheless, when ESPN’s Pete Thamel posted on X (Twitter) that sources close to Ewers had contacted him to notify him that the information was completely untrue and that the sports media account had most certainly been compromised.
Chip Brown, a Texas Longhorn insider for 247Sports, revealed on Reddit a short while later that the company’s account had indeed been compromised.
Given Ewers’ injury and Manning’s performance as the Longhorns’ QB1 stand-in, talk regarding the Texas quarterback room has been prevalent this season. But head coach Steve Sarkisian has stated time and time again that Ewers is his first choice and will stay in that position for as long as possible.
