After suffering a traumatic brain injury early this year, drag racing icon John Force—who is widely regarded as one of the most successful and enduring individuals in NHRA history—is facing a difficult path to recovery. Brittany Force, his daughter, recently posted a positive update on her father’s health, suggesting that a potential comeback to the NHRA scene may be imminent.

When Force’s engine ruptured during a qualifying heat at the NHRA Virginia Nationals in June, his car exploded into flames and collided with the track’s walls, temporarily sidelining him. Force was swiftly taken to VCU Medical Center while still alive despite the seriousness of the collision.

After a 15-day stay in the hospital, he was moved to the Barrow Neurological Institute, which is well-known for treating neurological injuries in athletes. “Drag racing champion John Force was released Tuesday in time to board an AirMed ambulance for a three-hour flight to a neurological rehab center where treatment for the Traumatic Brain Injury he suffered in a June 23 crash will continue,” read an update from John Force Racing at the time, following 15 days in various levels of critical care at VCU Medical Center.

Family members saw the 16-time NHRA Funny Car Champion’s exit from the hospital where he was flown following his collision at over 300 miles per hour as a significant advancement in his recuperation.

But medical professionals warned that there is still a long way to go. Force is coping with TBI-related behavioral and cognitive impairments. Furthermore, he still experiences periods of bewilderment even though he has been able to communicate with family and colleagues, enjoy the company of grandsons Jacob and Noah Hood, and celebrate a Monday birthday with daughter Brittany.Family members stated that there was no set schedule for Force’s stay at the new clinic, which was chosen because to its effectiveness in treating other racing car drivers with comparable problems.

Brittany Force has been giving updates and is still optimistic that her father will be able to resume his favorite sport. Brittany told reporters in Las Vegas that her father might return to the NHRA Pomona and Las Vegas events to support the squad. She clarified

“We’re pushing for it if he’s ready.” With a remarkable record of 157 career victories and 16 NHRA Funny Car Championships, John Force has a five-decade professional career.
