According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, quarterback Jayden Daniels of the Washington Commanders was sidelined for Sunday’s home game against the Carolina Panthers due to a rib injury.

Although it is not a “long-term injury,” according to NFL Network’s Cameron Wolfe, the team was exercising caution following a significant early lead over the Panthers. On Monday, the crew will assess the problem.

Evan Washburn of CBS Sports stated during the broadcast that the quarterback had X-rays taken of the injury during play.

Soon after Daniels left the game, his mother, Regina Jackson, gave him a positive update.
The home crowd gave Daniels a standing ovation when he returned to the sidelines in the second half sans his uniform.
Following a seven-yard run in the first quarter, Daniels sustained the injury. He continued to play the remainder of the drive, which ended with a field goal from Austin Seibert to put Washington ahead 10-0.

Daniels did not, however, rejoin the game. On the field, he tried a few tosses but went back to the sidelines to be examined by medical staff. After visiting the blue medical tent, Daniels left the field.

In his first six NFL games, the rookie has been outstanding, completing an NFL-high 75.3% of his throws for 1,404 yards, six touchdowns, and just two interceptions. In addition, he has ran for four more touchdowns and 322 yards.

In addition to being the driving force behind the turnaround of a franchise that has mostly been a losing one since its last Super Bowl victory 33 years ago, Daniels has already emerged as one of the NFL’s most exciting talents.

In his tenth season, Marcus Mariota is the backup for the Commanders. After being chosen with the second overall choice in the 2015 NFL Draft, Mariota started his career as the Tennessee Titans’ franchise quarterback. After five years with the organization, he moved around the league, playing for the Philadelphia Eagles, Atlanta Falcons, Las Vegas Raiders, and now the Commanders.

In Daniels’ absence, Mariota is more than capable of holding the fort down and is undoubtedly one of the NFL’s better backups.

However, it is hoped that Daniels’ exceptional talent would return to Washington sooner rather than later and help them win a long-awaited Super Bowl.
