When the New York Jets acquired Davante Adams in a trade to give quarterback Aaron Rodgers one of his favorite weapons again, this was not what they had in mind.

In Adams’ debut, the Jets fell to the Pittsburgh Steelers 37-15, their fourth consecutive defeat. With seven games played, their record is currently 2-5 on the season, which is worse than it was without Rodgers in the middle.

New York thought that by acquiring Adams, Rodgers would become more like his former self, scoring more touchdowns and committing fewer interceptions. On Sunday night, however, Rodgers appeared more or less unchanged, going 24 for 39 with 276 yards, one score, and two interceptions. Adams only had three receptions for thirty yards while being targeted nine times.

Since Week 13 of the 2021 season, Rodgers has played in 28 consecutive regular season games with fewer than 300 yards; adding another weapon hasn’t helped him end that unlikely run. Some commentators are criticizing the Jets for their shortcomings with a club that appears to be talented.

Adding another weapon hasn’t helped Rodgers halt his improbable stretch of playing in 28 straight regular season games with fewer than 300 yards since Week 13 of the 2021 campaign. With a team that seems talented, some pundits are pointing fingers at the Jets for their failures.
