College Football Playoff picture is starting to take shape as the college football season has progressed past the midway point. There could be alterations to the standings with a number of important games remaining. The matchup between the No. 1 Texas Longhorns and the No. 5 Georgia Bulldogs this Saturday is one important game
that could have an impact on the playoffs. The victor of this match will probably start as the favorite to win the SEC, while the loser will have a difficult time climbing back up the standings.
Analyst Lee Corso of “College GameDay” told colleague Kirk Herbstreit that a Georgia defeat might have more ramifications than a Texas defeat. Georgia would have suffered its second loss of the season, he said, which might put its prospects of qualifying for the postseason in jeopardy. Video of Corso saying, “Maybe not make the playoffs because of it,” was uploaded to Herbstreit’s Twitter account. “You never know when other teams throughout the nation could win or lose. A squad with two losses might not advance. Perhaps there aren’t enough one-loss teams.”
The Alabama Crimson Tide dealt the Bulldogs a devastating early-season loss. Before mounting a comeback to take a 34-33 lead late in the game, Georgia trailed 28-0. But Alabama would rally, winning 41–34 in the end. If Georgia doesn’t pull out a big victory on Saturday, Corso thinks it might be left out. Texas and Georgia will play on ABC at 7:30 p.m. ET. on ABC.
