Since Week Zero of the 2024 college football season began, there have been numerous upsets. Before the Week 8 schedule of games, an astounding 24 ranked clubs have been upset. More upsets, in Greg McElroy’s opinion, were imminent.

At the conclusion of a recent episode of “Always College Football,” Greg McElroy singled out a select teams as “Giant Killers.” He issued an upset alert for the ranked Texas Longhorns and Missouri Tigers for the next weekend.

In an SEC battle that is highly anticipated, Texas will host Georgia in Austin. Georgia is 5-1 with its lone loss coming to the Alabama Crimson Tide in Week 5, while the Longhorns are unbeaten at 6-0. After five previous meetings between the two elite schools, Texas prevailed 28–21 in the most recent meeting in 2019.

In a game listed in the top five, ESPN BET gives Texas a five-point advantage; the Longhorns lead the all-time series 4-1.

“I think I’m gonna get Georgia’s best punch, and I think Georgia goes to Austin and pulls off the upset,” McElroy stated. “It doesn’t feel good because Georgia hasn’t proven itself against Alabama and Kentucky, but I do believe the Longhorns have played teams who are far better than Georgia in terms of execution. I believe Georgia will manage to sneak in and surprise the top-seeded Texas Longhorns.

After losing 41-10 to the Texas A&M Aggies, Missouri dropped out of the top 10 then bounced back the next week, defeating UMass 45-3 away from home. The Tigers’ home game against Auburn marks their return to SEC conference action. Hugh Freeze, the head coach of Auburn, has yet to lead the Tigers to an SEC victory this year, but McElroy thought the team was about to turn things around.

“Missouri,” said McElroy. Does our performance improve? I’m not sure. Auburn is probably close. Auburn is, in my opinion, very close to gaining some momentum. Auburn is in a desperate situation, therefore I believe they travel to Missouri and win.”

In Columbia, Missouri is favored by four points by ESPN BET in a Tigers matchup. Missouri has four all-time encounters with Auburn coming up in Week 8, despite the fact that it joined the SEC in 2012.

ESPN will air Auburn-Missouri at noon ET, while ABC and ESPN+ will air Georgia-Texas at 7:30 p.m. ET.
