The most recent free agent to be connected to a move to Leeds United is Francis Coquelin.

Leeds is still reportedly searching for solutions to strengthen their midfield, and Coquelin may have received an invitation to Thorp Arch.

Although it’s obvious that Leeds hasn’t decided whether to bring anyone in at all, the former Arsenal player is reportedly eager to depart.

Another name that has surfaced in the past week or two is Cheikhou Kouyate, who spent time at Leeds’ training facility trying to demonstrate his fitness.

Nothing has reportedly happened after he had a medical exam, which suggests a deal for him now seems doubtful.

Smyth discusses his knowledge of Leeds’ interest in Coquelin.
During his pre-Sheffield United press conference, Daniel Farke was questioned once more about the free agency situation, but he would not discuss specific names.

Nevertheless, Farke expressed cautious hope about Leeds’ ability to bring someone in, even if he gave them two weeks to make the move.

In an interview with writer Graham Smyth for the Inside Elland Road Podcast, he discussed Leeds’ interest in Coquelin as a possible remedy.

Smyth has stated that rumors that he is at Thorp Arch are false, which seems to imply that a transaction won’t happen. He did not, however, completely rule it out.

“At this point, Kouyate is still one of a very small number they have looked at, are looking at, and considering,” he stated. When we spoke with the club last night, nothing significant was imminent.

“I am aware of a story that appeared in a national publication regarding Coquelin’s invitation. We currently don’t grasp the issue that way, so we’ll have to wait and see.

For Leeds, Kouyate would be a preferable choice to Coquelin.
With the injuries to Ethan Ampadu and Ilia Gruev, Leeds is weak in midfield, but it is not the only area where everyone is focusing.
Leeds would be severely short-staffed at center back if either Joe Rodon or Pascal Struijk suffered an injury or suspension, with Max Wober still awaiting return.

In light of this, Kouyate would make more sense than Coquelin because he can play holding midfield as well as center back. Additionally, Kouyate’s injury history is better.

It would make sense given the current circumstances to have the security of someone who can cover both, even though whoever steps in won’t be playing much.
