The New York Jets continue to make headlines. The Jets lost to the Buffalo Bills on Monday Night Football, only one week after firing head coach Robert Saleh. Aaron Rodgers then made a number of notable comments, including appearing to blame Mike Williams for the late-game interception.

A day later, the Jets acquired Davante Adams in a trade with the Las Vegas Raiders, reuniting the QB-WR tandem who previously played together with the Green Bay Packers. The Jets now have another major offensive weapon ahead of their Week 7 game against the Pittsburgh Steelers.

The Jets, on the other hand, are paying the remainder of Adams’ salary, and some see this as a desperate move, according to ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler.

“Other teams had reservations about paying the full salary, and the Raiders were pretty set on getting the money off the books, so the Jets made the most sense because they actually had the cap space to do it,” said a member of the AFC’s executive council. “And they were a little desperate.”

Multiple clubs, including the Buffalo Bills and Pittsburgh Steelers, expressed interest in Adams, but the Jets always had a strong connection thanks to Rodgers’ relationship with the wide receiver.

However, as Fowler points out, their cap space plus the Raiders’ desire to get his contract off the books made it extremely possible for both sides to reach an agreement. Following three consecutive losses, the Jets are now 2-4 and one defeat away from last place in the AFC East.

Adams will make his Jets debut on Sunday Night Football against the Pittsburgh Steelers at Heinz Field. Only time will tell if this “desperate” move pays off for Woody Johnson and his team.
